Functional Movement & Corrective Exercises

Our body’s ability to adapt to the surrounding environment is key to reducing injury.  Sensory receptors in our skin, muscles, joints and bones relay information to our nervous system to allow for the correct adaptations (motor responses) to occur.  Dr. Ben’s knowledge of functional movement allows him to assess his patients for biomechanical inconsistencies that may lead to an inability to adapt.

Furthermore, Dr. Ben instructs his patients on exercises to help strengthen and correct their own unique problem. These exercises can be performed in the comfort of your own home and can improve the effectiveness of balance and coordination.  Specific exercises and stretches can help your body stay in balance and in health.

Kinesio Taping

Kinesio Taping offers structural or muscle support; it can correct postural problems and increase blood flow and lymphatic drainage.

When applied correctly, the latex-free, fiber tape lifts the skin to create a small space between the muscle and dermis layers. That space takes the pressure off swelling or injured muscles, allows smooth muscle movement and makes space for drainage and blood flow. The result is improved circulation and better healing.

Myofascial Decompression (Cupping)

Myofascial Decompression (MFD), otherwise known as Cupping, is a therapeutic soft tissue technique where plastic vacuum cups, using a pneumatic pump, are placed on the skin to release the underlying fascia and muscle tissue. Here are some of the conditions commonly treated with MFD:

• Break up adhesions/scar tissue already present

• Decrease myofascial dysfunction

• Increase blood flow to a slow healing muscle, tendon    or ligament

• Reduce scar tissue formation

• Release trigger points and decrease tightness in a          muscle and the surrounding fascia

Graston

Graston is a type of manual therapy that utilizes an instrument to treat acute, chronic, and postoperative soft tissue conditions.

When an injury occurs to the soft tissue (pulled muscles, strained ligament or tendon, etc), restrictions can occur in the muscle and surrounding fascia. Graston works by using a tool to gently scrape the skin to identifying these areas of dysfunction and breaks up scar tissue and fascial adhesions to promote improved motion and healing.

Common conditions we treat using Graston:
• Sprain/strain injuries
• General pain (neck, back, knee, shoulder, ankle, etc.)
• Cesarean scarring
• And much more!
